Camp Philosophy (CP) is a gathering for friends who enjoy philosophy, good company, beautiful places, and conversations that go well beyond small talk.
Each year, we camp somewhere worth exploring, cook great food together, hike and photograph the surrounding landscape, visit interesting local places, and spend the week talking about whatever genuinely captures our attention. There are no lectures, formal seminars, or rigid schedules. The philosophy happens naturally—around the campfire, over breakfast, on the trail, beneath the night sky, or while sharing a drink after a long day.
Our conversations often wander through ethics, metaethics, moral and political philosophy, epistemology, philosophy of science, philosophy of science, logic, physics, metaphysics, astronomy, emerging technology, artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial life, and the larger questions surrounding existence. No particular academic background is required—only curiosity, intellectual honesty, and an appreciation for thoughtful disagreement.
At its core, Camp Philosophy is about briefly stepping away from ordinary responsibilities, exploring remarkable places, and enjoying the company of people who find philosophy genuinely exciting and worth thinking about.

Broadly, CP is a vacation car camping trip. However, we are geared toward philosophy enthusiasts who are Humanist or Humanist friendly. We spend lots of time both doing camp stuff (cooking, eating, drinking, site seeing), and discussing preferred topics in the various disciplines of philosophy.
Most of us are atheists and agnostics (depending on the usages of those words) but not all. Many friends who attend CP hold various beliefs in different versions of theism (including pan-psychism, pantheism, panantheism, classical theism, and deism).
No, CP attendees come from all avenues of the political spectrum.

Typically we will host between 10 and 30 people per 1 week event.
No. There is no requirement that you already know lots of philosophy to join (but it helps to know some basics).
For each person, tickets are usually about $150-$200 (for the entire week). This includes all food, campsites, firewood, and camp gear rental if you don’t have any gear (tent foot, tent, air pad, sleeping bag). However, we make exceptions for friends who lack the necessary funds. Inquiry within!
Usually the camp trips are 7 days. However, some folks choose to show up on their own and stay on a few days. As long as you’re on the invite list we are happy with either.
Yes, once invite emails are sent out (in order to reserve your spot) you must complete the RSVP form. This is done by clicking the RSVP button on the front of the CP website when registration becomes available (typically in June or July).
Not really. There are casual challenges that sometimes take place but it’s a good vibes community. We focus on Humanist values and mutual respect.
