Over the years many people have asked us, “What do you guys do out there?” or “What’s it all about”? Here’s a short list of what we like doing on our camp trips. Keep in mind this list is not exhaustive by any means but it encompasses a good amount of what CP is about.
- Explore new areas
- We love hiking around and checking out areas we are unfamiliar with. This is why we pick a different camp location every year. We like adventure! New and unfamiliar territory often makes for great memories and interesting stories.
- Discuss philosophy
- Well duh! With a name like Camp Philosophy we better live up to it, right? Suffice it to say we are not a “party group” (although we have been known to share some alcoholic beverages from time to time). Instead, it’s common to find us sitting around the campfire talking about various philosophical, scientific, or controversial topics. Very little is off limits but there is an unwritten rule that we keep things respectful. After all, we are on vacation!
- Cook
- We generally all cook together during breakfast and dinners. It makes for really good times! These times are ‘communal’. We all pitch in effort to complete the task (kind of like family) and the food is always well planned out and excellent. You will not go to bed hungry here (unless you want to).
- Shoot photos
- Our house photography guru Billy is the DSLR Jedi Master! His photo skills are on point and he can often be found noticing photo ops that few people would think to notice. At pretty much any time of the day or night you can find one or more of us discovering amazing or interesting things to shoot.
- Hike
- To go along with photographic opportunities hiking is one of the natural prerequisites. We love hiking mountain and desert trails (up, down, or around) and even trekking through ancient deserts. In doing so we’ve been able to see rattle snakes, scorpions, tarantulas, Billy goats, deer, elk, coyotes, bear, countless insects, fish, and of course majestic views.
- Relax
- This one is a must! One thing we love about Camp Philosophy is the motto of “No Stress – No Obligation”. It’s pretty much “do what you want, within reason!” This means you are free to let your mind be at ease (or not) whenever and pretty much however you want, when you want.
- Play games
- It’s not uncommon to find some of us playing Cards Against Humanity, Poker, or horseshoes.
- Nap
- No vacation would be complete without naps!
- Meet new people
- In new locations comes new opportunities to meet people from all around the world. Whether we are in southern California or the Grand Canyon it’s always super interesting meeting people from all walks of life.
- Go on excursions
- In many of the places we camp there are opportunities to do unique fun things. This includes: white water rafting, museum tours, fossil hunting, cable tram rides, playing in the snow, swimming, cliff jumping, in town shopping, site seeing (ancient ruins), and a ton more.
